Are you ready to work on your own schedule, make a difference, and get paid well for doing it? Read how I started my very own bookkeeping business from scratch!

How I Built My Own Bookkeeping Business from Scratch (And How You Can Too!)
After what I thought was a successful interview for a bookkeeping position, I was shocked to learn I didn’t get the job. When I inquired about the reason, the employer was brutally honest: my social media presence and personal beliefs made her uncomfortable. Rather than letting that rejection defeat me, I decided to turn it into fuel. I realized I didn’t need to work for someone else; I could build my own company and work for myself. That’s when The Faithful Bookkeeper was born.
Starting from Scratch
At the time, I had some bookkeeping experience, but it had been over ten years since I’d worked in the field, and I wasn’t certified in any bookkeeping software. I knew I needed some formal training to get back on track, which is when I discovered the **Bookkeeper Training School**. This course was an absolute game-changer. It gave me step-by-step instructions on everything I needed to build my business, from marketing strategies to QuickBooks Online Certification. The course also provided mindset coaching, which helped me transition into a business owner mindset, taking full responsibility for my results. It was empowering, but it also meant no one would push me but myself.
Within a week of completing the course, I had my first discovery calls, and by the end of the month, I had my first client! That first milestone of becoming QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certified felt incredible. It was a tangible reminder that I was on the right path.
Flexibility & Meaningful Work
One of the greatest benefits of running my own bookkeeping business is the flexibility. As a homeschool mom to five young children, having a job where I can work just an hour a day—whether early morning or late evening—gives me the work-life balance I need. My daily tasks vary, including bookkeeping, social media marketing, and email outreach, but I love that my hours are part-time and flexible.
More than just flexibility, the work itself is meaningful. I specialize in QuickBooks Online, which allows me to provide high-quality services to my clients, helping them organize their finances and save time. For example, I recently worked with a client who was doing all their bookkeeping on paper, which was incredibly time-consuming. I helped them transition to QuickBooks Online, making their financial management much more efficient and giving them peace of mind.
Finding Clients and Staying Motivated
Social media has been my most effective tool for finding new clients. I keep most of my posts related to bookkeeping and business, and I operate my business based on biblical principles. This not only helps me attract clients who share my values but also gives me the confidence to be authentic and trust that the right clients will come my way. If someone chooses not to hire me, I don’t take it personally. I believe sometimes a “no” is God’s way of protecting me from something not meant for me.
The work I do provides small business owners with much-needed relief, and knowing that motivates me daily. I’m also grateful for the community of fellow bookkeepers from the **Bookkeeper Training School**. Their support has been invaluable in troubleshooting challenges and celebrating wins.
